What does “CTF” mean?
CTFs (Capture the Flag) are a specialized type of computer security competition. There are three common types of CTF: Jeopardy, Attack-Defence, and Hybrid.
Jeopardy-style CTFs present a series of questions (challenges) across various categories, such as Web Security, Reverse Engineering, Network Security, Crypto, Pwning, or others. Teams earn points for each successfully solved challenge, with scores varying based on difficulty. At the conclusion of the game time, the sum of points determines the CTF winner. A prominent example of this type of CTF is the qualifications for the DEFCON CTF.
Attack-Defence-style CTFs represent another competition format. Each team is provided with its own network (or merely a host) featuring vulnerable services. Teams are given time to patch their services and develop exploits. Subsequently, the organizers connect the participants, and the game commences! Teams must protect their own services to earn defense points while simultaneously attacking opponents to gain attack points.
Historically, this was the original type of CTF, and the DEFCON CTF is considered a kind of World Cup for all other competitions.

What’s CyberChallenge.IT?
CyberChallenge.IT, a training program for young talents between 16 and 24 years of age, is the primary Italian initiative for identifying, attracting, recruiting, and placing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.
Participation does not require programming experts but instead necessitates great passion, commitment, and curiosity in STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Logical skills, problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and, above all, a strong willingness to learn are also required.
Since 2020, CyberChallenge.IT has been recognized by the Ministry of Education as a project for the enhancement of excellence; through these projects, the Ministry identifies initiatives and methods for recognizing levels of excellence achieved by secondary school students.

What’s CyberCup?
CyberCup is a Capture The Flag tournament comprising various events selected from available international competitions. All registered teams (with no limit on the number of participants), including newly formed ones, are eligible to participate.
The competition features a team ranking, where scores depend on performance in each selected competition. CyberCup events are carefully chosen based on quality and difficulty level by a technical committee. Higher priority is given to competitions organized by Italian universities and CTF teams. The events are designed with balanced difficulty to accommodate both less experienced and highly prepared teams.
